Run the tryout from your phone.Sign-ups, scoring, decisions.
Athlio: Dugout is a tryout app for youth baseball and softball coaches. Post the tryout, share one sign-up link, score every player from the field on iPhone, iPad or Android, and tell each family the decision the same night. No clipboard, no spreadsheet.

Four sections. One screen each.
A tryout in Athlio is Sign Ups, Check in, Score and the Decision Board. Nothing else to set up.
Sign Ups
Post the tryout with the date, field, positions open and the questions you want families to answer. Share the link by text, team chat or your public team page. Web sign-ups show the player, parent contact and positions.
Check in
Tap each player as they arrive and split them into groups A, B and C. A family that did not sign up ahead scans the walk-up QR on your phone and checks in from theirs.
Score
Assistants join the session from their own phones. Tap 1 to 5 by station or by player, type the radar reading, run the stopwatch for timed drills. Scoring keeps working when the field loses signal.
Decision Board
Every player ranked by the coaches’ averaged scores, with position ranks and station coverage. Offer, Call back or Cut in a tap, then email every family at once.
Built for the field, not the desk.
The scoring console is full screen and one-handed. One tap scores a skill 1 to 5 and moves to the next player; station view follows the bucket, player view follows you down the line. Every drill has a short what to look for cue under it, so an assistant who has never run your tryout scores the same thing you do.
Nine drills, forty-one skills. Hitting, infield, outfield, overhand velocity, speed and agility, a scrimmage for game IQ, and position evaluations for pitchers, catchers and first base. Timed drills (home to first, first to third, the 5-10-5 shuttle) take a stopwatch time; re-runs stack and the best time drives the score. Exit speed and throwing velocity take the radar gun reading in mph.
Several coaches score at once. Each one joins the session from their own phone or iPad, and their scores are averaged on the board. One Coach Pro covers the whole staff. Scores tapped offline count once that phone reconnects within 72 hours of the session closing. The tryout evaluation rubric lists every drill and skill with the 1 to 5 scale.
Everyone ranked. You make the call.
Ranked by averaged scoresPRO
Every player’s total across every drill and every coach, ranked against the group, with position ranks for the spots you are filling.
Station coveragePRO
How far each coach has scored each player, so you know a low total is a low score and not a missed station.
Offer, Call back or Cut
One tap per player. Call back or Cut several at once from the sign-ups list; offers go one at a time. Add a note the staff sees and the family never does.
Email every family
Email all lights up once everyone has a decision. Choose what goes out (decisions, player reports, a staff summary), review the email, send. Families who turned off tryout emails are skipped and their row says so.
On the iPad, the whole boardPRO
Turn the iPad sideways and the board runs full width: players down, drills across, every coach’s progress, all eleven players on one screen.
On the web, room to think
The same board at athlioapp.com, with each family’s email readable before it sends. Scoring stays on the phone or iPad in your hand at the field.
Tryout questions coaches ask.
Do families need the app to sign up for a tryout?
No. The sign-up page is on the web. A parent opens the link you share, enters the player and their contact details, and the sign-up lands in your app with a player card attached. A confirmation email follows.
Can more than one coach score at the same time?
Yes. Any coach on your staff opens the tryout on their own phone, taps Join session, and scores. Scores from every coach are averaged on the Decision Board. One Coach Pro covers the whole staff.
What happens when the field has no signal?
Scoring keeps working. Connect once to join the session, then score through dropouts; taps made offline count once that phone reconnects within 72 hours of the session closing.
What is scored?
Nine drills and forty-one skills, each with a what-to-look-for cue, rated 1 to 5. Timed drills take a stopwatch time, and the hitting and throwing drills take a radar gun reading in mph. You score by station as players rotate through, or by player as you walk the line.
What do families see after the tryout?
The decision you chose: Offer, Call back or Cut. With Coach Pro you can also send each family a report of their own player’s scores, with the group comparison and what to work on. Families never see another player’s numbers or your staff’s notes.
What is free and what needs Coach Pro?
Posting the tryout, the public sign-up page, the sign-up list and the Decision Board’s decisions are free. Check in, live scoring, timed drills, the ranked board and player reports need Coach Pro, a 6-month or yearly subscription that covers every coach on the team.
