PLAYER EVALUATIONS

Evaluate all season.Watch every player grow.

Athlio: Dugout is a player evaluation app for youth baseball and softball teams. Score your roster in windows through the season, on the same drills every time, so each player’s change is real and each family can see it.

Team evaluations on an iPhone: spring baseline and preseason done, midseason due, and each player’s change since the spring baseline
HOW IT WORKS

Windows, not one-off grades.

An evaluation window is a few days in which the staff scores every player on the same drills. Athlio suggests preseason, midseason and end of season, and a spring baseline before the season starts; you can name your own. Because every window uses the same nine drills and forty-one skills, a 3 in April and a 4 in June mean the same thing, and the change between them is the player’s, not the scale’s.

Each window runs in four sections: Check in the players who are here, Score from the field with every coach on your staff, Review the results, and Send each family a report about their own player. The scoring console is the one you use at tryouts: 1 to 5 by station or by player, with a what-to-look-for cue under every skill, a stopwatch for timed drills and the radar reading typed straight in.

Tryouts are for picking a team. Evaluations are for growing one. Results are never ranked against teammates; every player is measured against their own last window.

QUESTIONS

Evaluation questions coaches ask.

How is a team evaluation different from a tryout?

A tryout ranks players against each other to pick a team. A team evaluation measures each player against their own last window to grow one. Same drills, same scoring console, different question. Evaluation results are never ranked against teammates.

When should a team evaluate?

Athlio suggests three windows: preseason (about three weeks in), midseason (around day 100) and end of season (around day 180). You can set your own windows, and a spring baseline before the season gives every later window something to compare to.

What skills are evaluated?

The nine drills: Hitting, Fielding: Infield, Fielding: Outfield, Fielding: Overhand Velocity, Speed & Agility, Game IQ (Scrimmage), and position evaluations for pitchers, catchers and first base. Forty-one skills in all, rated 1 to 5, with mph and seconds where a radar gun or stopwatch applies.

Can assistant coaches score an evaluation?

Yes. Every coach on the team scores from their own phone or iPad, and the scores are averaged. One Coach Pro covers the whole staff, and scoring keeps working when the field has no signal.

Do families see the evaluation?

Only what you send. The Send step builds a progress report for each family about their own player: skill scores, the group average, the change since last time and what to work on. Your staff’s notes and the other players’ scores stay with the staff.

Is this part of Coach Pro?

Yes. Season evaluations, the scoring console and parent progress reports are Coach Pro. Setting up the team, the roster, the schedule, practice plans and messages are free.
